and the winner is...

Short Veil!

After trying on several birdcage veils at my dress fitting last weekend, I realized that they just don't flow with my dress and the look I am going for. Which surprised me, to be honest, because they are so classic and vintage. But it just looked like I was *trying* too hard to be classic and vintage, and overall it seemed to compete a bit with simplistic elegance of the dress.

But I put on Short Veil again and......ah - perfect! I remembered why I picked that one in the first place. It is subtle, soft, elegant and goes perfectly with the vibe of my dress.

So now I can put my restless, ever-changing mind at ease and stick to the original plan with confidence :)

Any other brides out there have strong feelings about veils vs. birdcages?

veils vs. birds

For awhile I went back and forth on the issue of veil vs. no veil (orchid in the hair instead) because the first few I tried on just didn't seem to go with the vibe or feel of my dress (which I like to call "vintage elegance" :) -- they were either too long or too youthful looking or too something. But then I started feeling like I would be missing out on the full "bride effect" if I didn't wear a veil, so I began looking around for images and ideas on styles that might work with my dress. And then....voila -- there it was...one that worked -- the Short Veil!

It seemed to capture that vintage-y vibe yet was still fun and soft and beautiful and elegant. So when I went in last month to try my dress on for the first time since it had arrived (which was a happy moment indeed) I asked to try a few variations of the Short Veil.

I am still amazed at how quickly I made the decision (quite a feat for one who takes 15 minutes to choose an entree). I was standing up there on that platform in my beautiful dress and veils were being passed back and forth and everyone ooh'ed and aah'ed and said that the Short Veil totally suited me and my dress, so I looked at price tags, picked my favorite (that had a little poof just like the one pictured above) and DONE. I ordered it up and went on my merry way.

{Fast forward a month}

Now I am not so sure about Short Veil. I mean, I haven't seen it since we last parted, but I am starting to have doubts because of these beauties:

The Bird Cage. While I definitely came across a few images of the Bird Cage in those initial searches, for some reason they didn't really jump out at me so much back then. Of course, now that I have already ordered and paid for Short Veil...now Bird Cage is grabbing my eye!

I just love how classic and romantic they look, and I keep stumbling across the most amazing photographs of them. So now I am thinking that Bird Cage would be *perfect* for my classic, vintage look. Am I just being fickle and indecisive? I hate to think of all that money wasted on the perfectly beautiful, never-worn veil I already ordered. And I have done SO WELL so far with not changing my mind too much (which is, as you brides-to-be out there know, near impossible considering the constant bombardment of beautiful images on the web -- each image and idea more enticing than the next!).

No definite decisions about the Bird Cage have been made quite yet. My plan of action is this: I am going to Virginia this weekend for my first dress fitting (yippee!) so while I am there I will ask to try on some of their Bird Cage options...that's all. Just try them on. Maybe I will discover that they don't suit me or my dress at all, in which case I will happily move forward with Short Veil, no regrets!

And if I fall head over heels for Bird Cage? Well then I will move forward in that decision and *not* beat myself up for changing my mind! Because, hey, it happens sometimes, right?

Any brides out there that can relate? Have their been details (big or small) that you've changed your mind about along the way?

{welcome!}

Welcome to City-Girl-Wedding (a shoot-off of That-City-Girl) where I can blog my little engaged heart out about All Things Wedding.

Although not a "City Bride" per se (we are getting married in the rolling hills of Virginia this September) I am a New York City girl attempting to plan a unique and beautiful wedding from afar.

With less than three months to go (HOLY COW how did that happen?) and actual *free time* to now devote to planning (something I haven't had in a loooong time because of this), I am feeling inspired to write, collect ideas and share wedding-related thoughts with you all.

So...here we go! Stick around ~ some good stuff {hopefully} coming your way!

For now I leave you with this ~ a little introduction to the happy couple :) --->
